It’s the Holy Grail; to discover your purpose, deepen your relationships with others, and squeeze all the juice and energy from your creative life.
My friend Neen James has just released her new book ‘Attention Pays’ which shows you how to do just that.
Firstly of all I love that the book has this lovely red color. In fact research by the University of British Columbia showed that the color red actually enhanced our levels of attention to detail. So pay attention.
Anyway I digress. So here’s the problem that this book solves. If you’ve ever uttered the words “I’m overwhelmed” or “I’m stressed” then this book is for you.
I know, I know. You’ve got social media notifications pinging away, the phone is ringing, and your work colleagues seem to have made it their life’s purpose to disrupt you when you’re trying to get stuff done.
Now you probably think you have a time management problem but you’d be wrong.
You see as Neen shows in this book you don’t have a time management problem, you have an attention management problem. (sorry what was that, I wasn’t paying attention)
It doesn’t matter what your role is - executive, leader, parent, entrepreneur, artist. We all have the same 24 hours in the day.
The secret to increasing productivity is actually about being intentional in the attention you give to others, family, friends, colleagues and customers.
There are two key areas where you can become more intentional and as a result increase your productivity.
On a personal level it’s about creating daily and weekly routines which set up the game to win.
One of my favorites strategies that Neen gives in the book is how to articulate the three things you are really good at and then finding ways to leverage those.
But don’t worry this book isn’t one one those ‘woo-woo’, spend your mornings hanging upside down in bizarre Indian yoga pose. This book is also for entrepreneurs, business owners and busy executives.
Neen lays out some great ideas on how to cultivate a work environment which creates intentional attention from yourself and your team.
