Matt Gumley is a New York based musician and actor. He got started early, performing on Broadway as Chip in Beauty and the Beast at the tender age of 7. Since then he’s appeared in multiple Broadway musicals including Mary Poppins, The Addams Family, and Elf The Musical. You might also recognize Matt from his appearances on hit TV shows such as Law & Order, Modern Family and The Americans. However it’s the song that is at the core of who Matt is as a creative person and it was while performing on Broadway that he discovered that his true passion is music and songwriting and he talks to us about 'writing your first songs'. His debut EP “Six Degrees of Separation” and single “Subway Rider” are out now.
In this episode of The Creative Life Podcast Matt tells us about releasing his first single "Subway Rider", shooting the music video and finishing his E.P to be released in June 2016. He also talks about how his parents played a big part in his musical taste and shares with us how he started writing songs.
"If it's what you love, you're not doing anything wrong. There are no right or wrong answers. You choose everything yourself. Your path is something you make for yourself."
"Don't give up. Stick with it. It will pay off."
