Concept of Creative Pairs
Hello, I'm James Taylor, a keynote speaker on creativity, innovation, and future trends. Today, I'm in beautiful Cancun, Mexico, having just come off stage from speaking at the International Management Conference for LSG Group, a company that employs approximately 20,000 people worldwide. Although you may not be familiar with LSG Group, you have likely encountered their products at some point, particularly if you've ever been on a flight. LSG Sky Chefs is one of their brands and provides in-flight catering services for many airlines, while Retail inMotion supplies duty-free items to budget airlines. The company brought me in to talk about the role of innovation in achieving its strategic goals.
Successful Creative Pairs
During my presentation, I discussed the concept of creative pairs, which is crucial to many innovative organizations. I explained that such companies often consist of complementary individuals who provide feedback and push each other to new heights. Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs, Pierre and Marie Curie, and Tim Cook and Steve Jobs are excellent examples of creative pairs. These companies are combinations of many creative pairs, and they play a significant role in driving innovation.
Importance of having creative peers
LSG Group is based in Germany and has an excellent German expression that I love. They refer to someone who they can "steal horses with," which means finding a person who can comfort and support you on journeys, someone who will be there for you in good times and bad. In creative work, having someone like that in your organization is vital. They provide feedback, make you think more deeply about your ideas, and stress-test them. They typically have a different personality type than you, which is beneficial.
I asked the audience to think about their own creative work and identify their creative peers, the individuals who provide feedback and push them to new heights. In conclusion, having creative peers is critical to achieving success in creative work. Thank you for watching, and my name is James Taylor.
