Good morning, I'm James Taylor, a keynote speaker on creativity, innovation, and future trends. Today, I'm in beautiful Cascais, just outside Lisbon, Portugal, for an event where I'll be speaking and meeting up with some speaking buddies. During my visit, I noticed a lot of companies engaging in a war for talent. Most of the companies I work with are multinational, working hard to attract the best talent, which usually comprises younger people entering the workforce.
Interestingly, as I travel around Portugal, I have noticed that many digital nomads are settling in towns around Lisbon. Cities across Europe and countries are competing to attract digital nomads because they bring good jobs. These aren't just backpackers; they are high-earning professionals who can work remotely from their laptops. Countries such as Portugal and Spain have digital nomad visas to attract this talent, and Croatia and many other countries are competing to attract digital nomads.
However, many of these countries are missing out on attracting this talent because of their use of language. There has been a generational shift from baby boomers to Gen X and now to millennials and Gen Zs. These younger generations want to work for companies that foster creativity and to live in places where they can live their most creative lives. This is different from what the baby boomers wanted.
Even in organizations, I can see this change in language. In younger organizations, they use the word creativity more than innovation. Creativity is about generating new ideas, while innovation is about bringing new ideas to the world. However, without creativity, innovation cannot happen. Many younger companies and countries looking to attract this talent use the word creativity to attract younger talent, even if they mean innovation.
I believe that countries should continue to talk about why they are the most creative place to work, raise a family, and enjoy a high quality of life when they're looking to attract talent. This is especially important if they want to attract the brightest young minds to their shores. My name is James Taylor, and I'm a keynote speaker on creativity, innovation, artificial intelligence, and future trends here in Cascais, Portugal. Thank you for watching.
